- Vin Scelsa is one of the most respected figures in New York broadcasting. Ever since 1967, when he pioneered free-form radio at WFMU (the groundbreaking listener-sponsored station then located in East Orange, New Jersey), he has been a vital force for the continued creative presentation of a wide variety of music on radio. He has worked in New York City at WBAI (1969-1970), WABC-FM / WPLJ (1970-71), WNEW-FM (1973-1982; where he also served as music director, 1975-76), and from 1985 to 1996 conducted an influential weekly show on WXRK (K-Rock) called Idiot's Delight. In 1996 Vin left WXRK and returned to his old home, 102.7 WNEW-FM, where he aired his very unique program - a free-flowing mix of music, monologue, live performance and interviews with musicians and writers - every Sunday night from 8 PM-2 AM, until the end of December, 2000, when Vin left commercial radio after one of the most successful continuous runs of any free-form programmer in America. "Vin Scelsa's Idiot's Delight"® was a rare oasis in the vast morass of commercial radio - an intelligent, creative, highly individualistic program that cuts through the bland aural wallpaper which clutters most of today's commercial airwaves.
